World Chemical Engineering Congress

Written by Jean-Charles de-hemptinne.

Dear colleagues,

Please be aware of the upcoming World Chemical Engineering Congress that will take place in Barcelona on 1-5 october 2017. Deadline for abstract submission is February 28th.

The Industrial Use of Thermodynamics (IUT) symposium will be opportunity to create a forum for exchange between the EFCE Working Parties on Thermodynamics and Transport Properties and on Fluid Separation Processes.

  • Keynote-Tutorials are planned on the Selection of reliable Data and Adequate Models for Sustainable Process and Product Desing
  • A round-table discussion on Data Quality and Assessment, Validation methods and Error Propagation through the Simulation Software. This will be a unique opportunity to share on the challenges related to the design of complex separation processes.

Your input will be highly appreciated, either submitting an abstract or simply by attending the sessions.

Best regards,

Jean-Charles de Hemptinne

IFP School Professor

EFCE recognises research in electrolyte thermodynamics

Written by Christian Ove Carlsson.

Acr89851937199872 1244011Dr Bjørn Maribo-Mogensen, who completed his PhD at the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, Technical University of Denmark (DTU) under the supervision of Professor Georgios M. Kontogeorgis and Associate Professor Kaj Thomsen, has been named the winner of the 2015 EFCE Excellence Award in Thermodynamics and Transport Properties.

Dr Maribo-Mogensen, now a Physical Property Specialist at Linde Engineering, Munich, Germany, successfully modelled an equation of state for electrolytes with applications in the oil and gas industry as part of his research.

He also developed a deeper understanding of the different models currently used for electrostatic interactions, comparing the Debye–Hückel model with the mean spherical approximation (MSA) theory.
